Aston Villa have surpassed expectations this year in the Premier League, and even looked like title challengers at one point.
Unai Emery‘s side currently sit in the lofty heights of fourth, though in order for a Champions League place to be secured, they’ll need to avoid injuries to key men.
With that in mind, Football FanCast is here to keep you updated with the latest injury and suspension news ahead of this Thursday’s clash with Ajax.
Latest Aston Villa injury news
Villa have six injury absentees ahead of Thursday’s action.
Diego Carlos and Jhon Duran both remain out through injury. Also, Boubacar Kamara is recovering from his serious injury and won’t feature until next season.
Tyrone Mings and Emi Buendia are making progress in their respective recoveries, which is a positive, but this weekend is too soon.
One blow is that Jacob Ramsey may miss out, with the midfielder set to undergo tests on a foot injury.

Sadly, Jacob Ramsey picked up a foot injury in Aston Villa’s win at Luton Town and had to be substituted.
It remains to be seen as to how long he’ll be out with Emery yet to provide a real update.
Jhon Duran – hamstring
Jhon Duran picked up a hamstring injury against Everton.
This leaves Aston Villa with just one striker in the form of Ollie Watkins, so Emery will be praying that nothing happens to the Englishman.
And, the striker looks set to miss the Ajax clash, with a potential return date being listed as this weekend’s Premier League clash.
Diego Carlos – hamstring
Diego Carlos is one of the latest names added to Aston Villa’s injury list after injuring his hamstring recently.
It was claimed that he was set to be out for the next three to four weeks at the time of the news, and he now looks on course to return at the end of March having been doing individual gym work.
Tyrone Mings – knee
Tyrone Mings suffered a significant knee injury on the opening day of the season against Newcastle United, and Villa quickly confirmed that he would require surgery to resolve the issue.
The defender is making progress in his recovery, with a comment coming out of Aston Villa:
“When they are injured for a long time, it’s the worst in football. It’s more difficult for the player, as a person, when they are injured. We’ve had two injuries for a long time, for all the season, with Buendia and Mings.”
He looks set to sit out once again this week, but he can’t be far away now.
Emi Buendia – knee
Aston Villa confirmed that Argentine midfielder Emi Buendia had suffered a ‘significant knee ligament injury’ in training a day before the season started.
Things are heading in the right direction as he’s also making positive progress in his recovery, but it still looks as if it’s too soon for any bigger update, though there was a small comment today:
“When they are injured for a long time, it’s the worst in football. It’s more difficult for the player, as a person, when they are injured. We’ve had two injuries for a long time, for all the season, with Buendia and Mings.”
Similarly to Mings, he can’t be too far away now, though there’s been no timeline given by Emery with him clearly not wanting to rush.
Boubacar Kamara – ruptured ACL
Many Aston Villa fans are probably still feeling the effects of the Boubacar Kamara injury announcement two weeks later. He was substituted during the Manchester United clash, and it’s now been confirmed that he suffered a ruptured ACL.
Emery provided an update today but it wasn’t great.
He stated: “Now it’s the same for Kamara. Maybe, more or less, in September or October he is coming back.”
Aston Villa latest suspensions
There are currently no suspensions.
